Long Love Memorials is currently seeking a part-time Ceramics Assistant to help with various projects in our Glendale, California studio.
You must have experience working in a ceramics studio of some kind (in school, in another business, in a community space). We create custom niche ceramic products in-house. In addition, we do ceramic production and consulting work with clients.
We will train you on things specific to our processes and equipment, but we need someone who has a working knowledge of ceramic materials, techniques, and equipment.
Your tasks may vary from day-to-day based on the needs of our business, and our current projects and clients.
YOUR ROLE:
- Slipcasting, sanding, glazing, applying ceramic decals. Very hands-on work, working directly with materials, products, and customer orders.
- Loading and unloading electric kilns, organizing posts, cleaning kiln shelves.
- Cleaning the studio (nothing too extensive), and tidying up at the end of each day. Re-arranging and organizing the studio might happen on occasion.
- Packing orders for shipping.
- Responding to customer and client emails as needed.
- Social media posting, if you’re interested (not a requirement).
- Errands: picking up supplies, dropping off packages, etc. (reimbursed for mileage)
REQUIREMENTS:
- Experience working in a ceramics studio. Ceramics degree preferred, but not required.
- Very important: Careful attention to detail and ability to work on small pieces that may be intricate.
- Quick learner if lacking some experience in slipcasting, decaling, etc.
- Excellent communication skills, and ability/willingness to respond to customer and client emails.
- Independent worker with the ability to work quickly, quietly, and mindfully.
- Flexibility, compassion, and kindness are VITAL to this position as you will be working with someone who has a chronic illness.
- Must be located near Glendale, or willing to drive there for work. Some tasks can be done from home, but coming to the studio a few times per week will be required.
- Must be covid vaxed and boosted.
- Must be comfortable wearing a mask indoors while working in our studio (it’s required by our building manager).
BONUS:
- Ceramics degree (Associate’s, BFA, MFA, etc.), or extensive training in a ceramics studio.
- Experience with ceramic decals, slipcasting, and plaster moldmaking.
- Understanding of and experience working with porcelain.
- Ability to throw on the potter’s wheel is not required.
- Experience firing electric kilns.
- Ability to help manage tasks, priorities, and schedules. Owner is neuro-diverse and may require assistance in this area.
WHAT YOU GET:
- Valuable experience working in an active ceramics studio with a small business owner.
- Opportunities for additional hours, new roles, room to grow in the company.
- Potential to use some of our studio space, equipment, and tools to work on your own pieces during off-hours.
- Possible opportunities to fire your own work in our kilns, as space permits.
- Experience working in different areas of ceramics that you might not have been exposed to (decaling, slipcasting).
- Something fun to do while getting paid. Ceramics is awesome!
Position is part-time 5-10 hrs per week to start. Opportunity for additional hours in the coming months.
Please note: All interviewees will be required to sign an NDA and confidentiality agreement.
We welcome neuro-diverse, LGBTQ+, POC applicants. Owner is neuro-diverse with a chronic autoimmune disease; open-mindedness, compassion, and patience are requested from all applicants.

PLASTER MOLDMAKER
$17/HR, or paid per project
May 2022
Long Love Memorials is currently seeking a moldmaker with experience making multiple part plaster molds for casting pottery and small sculptural forms. We typically create all of our molds in-house, but we need additional help as our company grows.
This role will require someone to make plaster mother/master molds from models, and working/production molds. Experience with silicone rubber (in moldmaking) is helpful, but not a dealbreaker.
We're happy to hire someone to either do the work in our studio (located in Glendale), or you can make the molds in your own space. If you work in our space, we have all of the tools and materials needed.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Experience making multi-part plaster molds for ceramics. Photos of molds you’ve made, and the pieces that were cast from the molds will be required.
- Careful attention to detail and ability to work on small pieces that may be intricate.
- A gentle touch when handling pieces so things don’t get broken.
- Independent worker able to work quietly, and manage time well. (Studio is in a semi-shared space, so it's vital we are considerate of neighbors.)
- Experience making plaster models is a bonus, but not required.
- Must be located near Glendale, Callifornia, or able to drive there to either make the molds, or deliver them to our studio (if you’re making them in your own space).
- Must be covid vaxed and boosted.
- Must be comfortable wearing a mask indoors while working in our studio (it’s required by our building manager).
- Must be willing to sign a non-compete clause.
This position is not suitable for someone who needs steady, weekly work because our moldmaking needs will always be in flux.
